You can't scale what you don't own

Building the product is only part of the challenge. It's just as important to own the information behind it.

Building the product is only part of the challenge. It's just as important to own the information behind it.

Every product relies on a huge amount of documentation. CAD files, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, Gerbers, test procedures and supplier information all become part of the product itself.

Early on, ownership rarely feels like a problem. The product is being developed, suppliers are engaged and everything is moving forward.

Until something changes.

A supplier relationship ends. A component becomes obsolete. Production needs to move to a new factory. That's when documentation becomes critical.

Without clear ownership from the start, important information can become fragmented across suppliers, manufacturers and development partners. New documentation gets created, processes evolve and knowledge accumulates over time. What began as a straightforward product programme can become increasingly difficult to transfer, scale or modify.

What should be a product transfer quickly becomes a reconstruction project. Timelines slip. Costs increase. Valuable knowledge is lost.

Good documentation isn't paperwork. It's control. It gives companies ownership of their product, their supply chain and their future options.

You can't scale what you don't own.
